RAMPAGE (2009)
Directed by: Uwe Boll
Written by: Uwe Boll
Released by: Phase 4 Films
"Vengeance is ruthless."
German filmmaker Uwe Boll, who is normally referred to as "one of the worst directors of all time", somehow manages to do a complete 180° with his 2009 film 'Rampage'. The story is about a young man in his early 20's who grows tired of the world in which he lives in. His only solution? Strapping on a bullet proof suit and going on one of the largest killing sprees this country would ever see.
As weird as it sounds, Uwe Boll has finally made a movie that I like! For the most part, the film reminded me a bit like Gus Van Sant's 2003 award winning movie 'Elephant', but on a much larger scale. Don't get me wrong, the film isn't "great". In fact one could argue that 'Rampage' is one of the most pointless films ever made in terms of context. But yet, for the first time, Uwe seems to finally understands his target audience and in the process, delivers a solid movie full of gratuitous violence, raw camera work and plausible acting. The best thing about 'Rampage' too is that it never tries to be something that it's not. If you're looking for a nice family film about friendship and love, then this film probably isn't for you. On the other hand, if you want to see a guy shooting up his entire town, "Grand Theft Auto style" for 85 minutes, then in my opinion 'Rampage' can do no wrong. Go check it out!
