"The Frog Brothers are back for blood!"

The Frog Brothers, Edgar (Corey Feldman) and Alan (Jamison Newlander) must reunite in hopes of taking down a bloodthirsty clan of "Vampire Ravers" who are using a new recreational drug called "The Thirst" to transform ordinary people into pasty face "creatures of the night".

'Lost Boys: The Thirst' marks the second direct-to-video sequel in as many years.  The previous installment, titled 'Lost Boys: The Tribe' was released in 2008 and was widely viewed as an utter disappointment amongst long time fans.  The good news is that the writers and producers of this newest film have decided to totally disregard 'The Tribe' all together and start fresh with an exciting new storyline featuring The Frog Brothers, doing what they do best...kicking vampire butt!

My main concern about this film, before actually watching it, had to do with the whole "Rave" aspect that's shown throughout the entire trailer.  Let's face it, raves haven't been popular in this country since the early 90's and it comes across as an idea that's extremely dated for a movie released in 2010.  The raves however are not a prominent fixture in the storyline.  In fact, other than a brief scene in the beginning and a concluding battle scene near the end, there really isn't a whole lot of raving going on.  And just to squash people's fears and overall gripes about the last movie, Corey Feldman IS the main star of 'Lost Boys: The Thirst', appearing in at least 85% of the movie, if not more.  The one thing that might disappoint some however, is in the lack of overall screen time given to the other Frog Brother, actor Jamison Newlander.

In the script, Newlander's character "Alan" is put in a situation that keeps him out of the action for a considerable amount of time and forces Feldman's character "Edgar" to team up with a new group of vampire hunters, consisting of a narcissistic reality show host, his personal camera man and a female comic book store employee.  The group works surprisingly well together and are given a lot of great weapons to play with...resin grenades, ultra violet torch lamps, holy water grenade guns and much more.  And even though Newlander's appearance in the film might not be as long as most fans had hoped for, he is still in several key scenes, including the finale which features both brothers involved in a spectacular sword fight against the head vampire. The film also includes several flashback scenes from the first movie featuring Edgar, Alan and Sam (played by the late Corey Haim) which I'm sure will please a lot of fans.  Corey Haim isn't featured in the movie otherwise, but his disappearance from the film is mentioned, as are other main characters from the original, such as Michael, Star and even the young vampire child Laddie...and let's not forget the ever popular Lost Boys theme "Cry Little Sister" by G Tom Mac, inserted into several pivotal scenes throughout the film.

Overall this is just an incredibly fun movie and something the fans should have gotten the first time around.  I think giving Corey Feldman more creative input this time really helped the project considerably, as he really seems to understand the characters and what the fans would want to see in a 'Lost Boys' sequel.  The decision to shoot this movie in South Africa rather than Canada also helped tremendously, giving 'The Thirst' a much more professional look and WAY better acting as well.  Other complaints heard about the previous sequel, such as the actual look of the vampires and the often terrible CGI have improved significantly in part 3 also.  The vamps are given a much more natural look this time and the CGI is damn near perfect in my opinion, which is surprising considering the budget.

Bottom line if you're a fan of the 'The Lost Boys' then 'The Thirst' is definitely a film you'll want to check out when it's released on October 12th.  Lots of great vampire action and a story which features many unexpected twist and turns along the way.  They even set things up for a sequel where we just might see The Frog Brothers battling it out with monsters other than vampires for a change, which I'm personally excited for.  And if you haven't yet, make sure to check out the official trailer below...
