Iron Man 2 (2010)
Directed by: Jon Favreau
Written by: Justin Theroux
Released by: Paramount Pictures
Robert Downey Jr. returns as the wise-cracking, egotistical billionaire, turned Super Hero, Tony Stark in Jon Favreau's highly anticipated sequel 'Iron Man 2'. Through the use of his high tech Iron Man weaponry, Stark has managed to establish world peace...however the government views the technology as a possible threat and wants Stark to disarm and hand it over to them. If that wasn't bad enough, Tony is also forced to contend with Russian born criminal, Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke) a.k.a. "Whiplash", who seeks revenge for the ill-treatment of his father, a former Stark Industries employee.
As you can probably guess, the film has top notch special effects that amazingly exceed what they were able to accomplish the first time around. The action however seems to stall early on after an initial showdown between Iron Man and Whiplash. Rourke does a fantastic job as the lead villain, but his character seems to be put on the back-burner to make room for a more story driven film. The action really seems to pick up in the final 20 minutes or so, but there's a huge chunk in-between that will probably leave some action junkies waiting impatiently for their next fix.
I have to say though, if you liked the first movie you'll definitely like this one as well. The film features an extraordinary group of actors, with an excellent script that conveys a wide spectrum of emotions. This is how comic book films should be done...although a little more action would be nice also.
